UE bergabung dengan sejumlah perusahaan lain satu tahun lalu untuk menumpas ekstremisme online, merespons kekhawatiran di Eropa soal penggunaan media sosial sebagai alat perekrutan, terutama oleh ISIS.
“Perusahaan-perusahaan itu sekarang menghapuskan ujaran kebencian ilegal dua kali lebih banyak dan lebih cepat dibandingkan dengan enam bulan lalu,” kata Vera Jourova, komisaris kehakiman UE, dalam laporan progres tahunan pertama.
“Itu menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan pengaturan diri bisa berhasil,” kata Jourova, yang menyerukan progres lebih baik – terutama dari Twitter.
Facebook adalah satu-satunya dari keempat raksasa – dua lainnya adalah Microsoft dan YouTube – yang meninjau dan bertindak paling banyak terhadap notifikasi ujaran kebencian dalam waktu 24 jam, tambahnya.
Facebok, Twitter, Microsoft dan YouTube milik Google mengumumkan sebuah kode etik pada Mei tahun lalu, berjanji akan mengapuskan ujaran kebencian online dalam waktu 24 jam setelah dilaporkan.(afp/antara/arh)
